Biofrontera AG is a biopharmaceutical company specializing on the development of drugs and medicinal cosmetics for the treatment of skin diseases and the regenerative care of damaged skin.

In December 2011 the Company received the centralized European approval for its first prescription drug, Ameluz^® for the treatment of actinic keratosis. Ameluz^® was introduced into the German market on February 1, 2012. For the distribution in Scandinavia, Biofrontera signed an exclusive Agreement with Desitin Arzneimittel GmbH.

Biofrontera’s cosmeceutical Belixos cream was introduced into the German market in October 2009, in several Arabic countries by the end of 2010. It is Biofrontera’s intention to develop a line of cosmeceutical products under the Belixos brand.

In clinical development as prescription drugs are furthermore BF-derm 1 (Phase II) for chronic, antihistamine-refractory urticaria and BF-1 for migraine prophylaxis. Ameluz^® is developed further for additional indications.

Biofrontera group was founded in 1997 by Prof. Dr. Hermann Lübbert, the current CEO, and is located in Leverkusen, Germany. The company currently employs 30 people.
